The new 2-storey St John’s School Sports Centre provides a bright and inspiring environment for students to discover their sporting potential, and to learn skills that will set them on the path to a healthy and active lifestyle.

The new complex contains a state-of-the-art fitness gym, multi-use space which can be used either as a dance studio, meeting space, classroom or small exam space, new changing facilities and of course the new six lane 25m competition swimming pool complete with spectator seating, first floor viewing gallery and competition timing equipment.

Due to the facilities wide range of uses, we offered differing structural solutions for each area to ensure that the structure was fit for purpose and worked efficiently. This included a long span exposed glulam portal frame structure for the double-height space over the swimming pool, which is supported on a concrete transfer beam, a braced steel frame for the two-storey plant and storage area, while for the dance studio and office areas have braced steel frames up to first floor level with exposed glulam frames above.

The flexibility of the design allows the school to adapt and expand, as required.
