BREEAM Very Good
The Dell Centre - St Giles Church
MCS was awarded a contract to build a new church hall, today known as the ‘Dell Centre’, following a competitive tender process. The building is part single and part two storey and uses the existing site levels to provide an upper entrance that links to the church via the Lychgate.
MCS worked collaboratively with Miller Bourne Architects who were involved from inception to completion and worked closely with the client team throughout. The Client had environmental, social, and economical aspirations for their new hall and wanted to attain a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating, which was achieved.
The building accommodates several flexible community spaces including the main hall which is served by a kitchen and can be acoustically divided into two areas, both of which open onto a large semi-circular terrace that sits within the bowl.
On the first floor three further group rooms of various sizes are located. The design incorporates large roof-lights over the main hall space to provide generous amounts of natural light and ventilation; throughout the building windows are strategically positioned to frame the views of the surrounding landscape.
