Award Winning

St Dunstans Church

MCS was awarded St Dunstan’s Church project following a competitive tender process.  Following the contract award MCS quickly and seamlessly mobilised and worked closely with the Ireland based design team to deliver the challenging and complicated project.

The new church was constructed on the site of an old school, which required the demolition of the former school building, followed by the construction of a new presbytery, a new church, and various associated external works.

The new church was constructed with concrete foundations and a complicated main steel frame to accommodate the numerous features of the main building including the roof. The steel frame had to be permanently braced with substantial insitu concrete casing during construction due to the imbalance of the weight distribution required by the main steel frame layout.

The main feature roof over the sanctuary proved intricate and challenging to construct and was clad in zinc standing seam externally and with feature timber hardwood panels internally.  The overall building was finished with hardwood joinery and a very high standard of finishes.

The Burlington slate floor features an intricate layout which was laser cut and required very careful scheduling to ensure the correct quantity of individual shaped slates were purchased and installed. The extensive slate flooring layout required careful setting-out which was recognised with an award at The National Stone Awards in London.
