MCS was appointed to carry out two separate projects at the Grade II* Listed Selfridges on Oxford Street London.
The initial project involved constructing a large, new steel-framed mezzanine floor structure in the basement level of a highly active loading bay. This bay, which served the entire store, required meticulous logistical planning to ensure the work was completed according to a strict schedule, within a very confined space, whilst still accommodating the store's ongoing delivery needs.
The second project was to form a new Brasserie area on the retail floor. This required internal store remodelling and involved extensive stripping out, structural alterations, wall, partitions and structural apertures for the new escalators and installing the new escalators.
All the works to both areas had to be meticulously planned and co-ordinated with the ongoing live store operations. Special care was given to minimise any disruption to the shopper experience. To achieve this, attractive perimeter hoarding was installed to separate the working area from the retail space, providing visual, audible and environmental screening.
Collaborative daily communication and coordination with the store's Facilities Manager ensured that all works were completed safely, whilst the store remained operational throughout the entire works.
