Built on Flood Plain
Riverbourne Health Club
Working in collaboration with Lewandowski Architects, MCS was appointed to design and build a new health club and 25m long swimming pool in central Chertsey on the site of an old council car park and immediately adjacent to the River Bourne.
The first stage of the project involved considerable negotiation with the council to construct a replacement public car park on an adjacent flood plain.
Due to the proximity of the new facility to the river, the facility was designed to flood once in 100 years, to suit the design criteria at the time.
Other facilities in the club included: a large gymnasium, three squash courts, changing rooms, multifunction rooms and a large reception and café area and all back of house areas.
