Live Care Site
Prior's Court School
Construction of a new two storey accommodation block, comprising 24 en-suite bedroom units, shared kitchens and live in carer accommodation for students with sever autism.
Constructed to very robust standards and within the boundaries of a specialist autism unit, special measures had to be taken to complete the works safely on site and in full respect of the needs around the main site.
The project was challenging as it involved the difficult task of building in extreme building fabric robustness whilst trying to maintain a residential and homely feel to the properties. In addition, the entire constriction works were delivered in the middle of a live environment for vulnerable children and adults.
With good management of the site logistics, strong architectural detailing, high specification of materials coupled with the outstanding quality of the workmanship all these elements were achieved with outstanding success.
The new building has brought about a 28% decrease in behavioural incidents from the young people, as the building was specially designed to anticipate and reduce the challenges people experience because of their autism. It directly addresses possible sensitivities to noise, heat, visual stimulation and the need for visual cues through carefully themed colour plans, decoration and easily controllable lighting.
