Windsor Girls’ School Complete

The new sixth form building at Windsor Girls School, which is a secondary school and sixth form in Windsor, Berkshire was complete in good time for the beginning of the Autumn term last month.

Working in collaboration with Clarkson Alliance, Edgingtons, Scott White Hookins and JDP Building Services, MCS was appointed to design & build a 2-storey 6th form teaching block at Windsor Girls’ School.

The new sixth form building of 675m2 today features six classrooms, two offices, a meeting room, a breakout space/refreshment area and sanitary facilities.

The building is orientated with the majority of rooms facing east or west; so as to provide solar shading, reduce glare and overheating throughout the day, the fenestration was also recessed into the external walls with deep mullion profiles.

The school has several majestic trees on the site, with one large oak tree in very close proximity to the build site. Edgingtons developed the design to retain and take inspiration from this tree, resulting in the attractive articulation of the brickwork detailing at ground and first floor level to reference the different textures of the tree trunk and canopy.
