Working closely with Sawyer & Fisher and Norman Haines Design Partnership the brief was to transform and extend the Grade II Listed church ‘in keeping with the style’ to accommodate two additional Church Halls.
The new building was located at the end of the main church and filled a courtyard area within the main churchyard. Prior to any excavation works commencing several graves were carefully and sensitively exhumed and relocated to another part of the church grounds. These works were undertaken by a specialist exhumation company under a careful watching brief by the local archaeologist.
Given the site access restrictions, piling operations were restricted to a slower mini rig set up. Cranage erection for the beam and block flooring and steel roof trusses were also of a challenge given the length of the hall and the ability of a small mobile crane to lift from one end only. Despite many challenges, the project was delivered on time and to budget with a very happy client and professional team.
The new facility today boasts a spacious foyer area, fully equipped kitchen, disabled access and amenities, baby changing area, a large hall, a small hall, a vicar’s study, and washrooms.
“I feel that I must write to you separately to express my thanks to you all, as a company, for the great support, help and cooperation that I have received from you over the years.
“I always felt that, at our various site meetings we were on the same side.
“It has not always been so with other contractors.”
